“America’s Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival”

America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, Music Mountain will celebrate its 83rd anniversary season starting June 17th with a schedule featuring sixteen Chamber music concerts, a series of Jazz, Big Band and Country Music concerts, a unique evening devoted to Gilbert & Sullivan and a number of special events slated through September 9th. "This summer’s season will feature a composer’s “first,” “last” or “only” work in the genre,” stated Music Mountain's board president Nicholas Gordon. “One would think that in 83 seasons, we would have played just about everything! So it is surprising and exciting to present so many wonderful works in their Music Mountain debuts this summer. The Quartet repertory is so rich, varied and extraordinarily large, that even with 16 concerts a year, we still find new works to play by great and important composers.” Located in the northwest corner of Connecticut in the town of Falls Village, Music Mountain will showcase some of the most notable talent from around the globe -prompting The New Yorker Magazine to acknowledge the organization as “The summer shrine of the String Quartet.”

Concert enthusiasts will want to mark their calendars with the Opening Benefit and Reception slated for Sunday, June 17th (3PM) featuring the legendary pianist Misha Dichter in his second Music Mountain appearance and the acclaimed St. Petersburg String Quartet performing the Brahms: Piano Quintet in F Minor, Opus 34.The St. Petersburg String Quartet will also play the Beethoven: String Quartet in C Minor, Opus 18 #4 and the Tchaikovsky: String Quartet in B Flat Major, Opus Post --- a Music Mountain debut!

Quartets and assisting artists to appear this coming summer will include the Arianna String Quartet (June 24 with Tanya Bannister, Piano); St. Petersburg String Quartet (June 17, July 1 with Robert Stallman, Flute in an all Schubert program & July 8 with Victoria Schwartzman, Piano, and Peter Askim, Bass, in an all Russian program); Cassett String Quartet (July 15 with Ursula Oppens, Piano & Mark Peskanov, Violin in an all French program); Alexander Fiterstein, Clarinet, Steven Beck, Piano and Nicholas Canellakis, Cello (July 22 with Clarinet trios first played at Music Mountain by Benny Goodman and not performed at MM since, and the beautiful Beethoven Cello variations on the aria Bei Mannern from the Magic Flute); Colorado String Quartet (July 29 with Roger Tapping, Viola); Amernet String Quartet (August 4 with Yizhak Schotten, Viola in an all Dvorak Program); Hausmann String Quartet (August 5 with Lydia Artymiw, Piano); Voxare String Quartet (August 11 performing Haydn and Mendelssohn and a selection of the Beethoven Scotch, Irish and Welsh songs with William Compton, Tenor);  Avalon String Quartet (August 12 with Jonathan Yates, Piano); The Old City String Quartet (August 19 with Pamela Mia Paul, Piano); The Juilliard String Quartet (August 26 in an all Beethoven Program); The Shanghai String Quartet (September 1) and featuring pianist Haochen Zhang - Van Cliburn Gold Medalist (September 2); and the Daedalus String Quartet (September 9 with pianist Soyeon Lee - Naumburg Award Winner).
