“America’s Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival”

(Falls Village, CT) Celebrate music this summer as Music Mountain continues its 82nd Anniversary season with the award-winning Daedalus String Quartet, performing Music Mountain’s first-ever --- all contemporary program --- with three Music Mountain premiers on Saturday, July 16th (6:30pm) and what promises to be one of this summer’s singular musical highlights --- an all Schubert, all masterpiece mid-summer benefit concert on Sunday, July 17th  (3PM) featuring the Daedalus Quartet along with special guest artists Ariana Zukerman, Benjamin Hochman, Alexander Fiterstein, Karl Kramer, Peter Kolkay and Kurt Muroki . The weekend concerts are just a sampling of the world class musical artists---including chamber, jazz and country groups that are included in Music Mountain’s 2011 weekend concerts in Falls Village thru September 4th(full season click here)

For the last ten years,
The Daedalus Quartet has established itself as a leader among the new generation of string ensembles and has been praised by audiences and critics alike.  The Saturday, July 16th twilight concert will feature three Music Mountain premieres --- all contemporary works written especially for the Daedalus: Horne: String Quartet #3: Flight from the Labyrinth; Wernick: String Quartet # 8 and Dillon: String Quartet #4: The Infinite Sphere. The quartet has performed in Vienna, Amsterdam, and Paris, as well as in Washington D.C. and at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

On Sunday afternoon July 17th , The Daedalus Quartet will return to the stage as part of Music Mountain’s Mid-Summer Special Benefit featuring three of Schubert’s greatest and most melodic works: the sublime “Shepherd on the Rock” for Soprano, Piano and Clarinet in its Music Mountain premiere; followed by the great "Trout" Quintet for piano and strings, said to be the single most popular piece in the chamber music repertory; and the magnificent “Schubert Octet” in only its third Music Mountain performance in 82 seasons. Avery Fisher Career Grant Winners Alexander Fiterstein, clarinet, and Peter Kolkay, bassoon, will be joined by Benjamin Hochman, piano; Karl Kramer, french horn; Kurt Muroki, bass; and Ariana Zukerman, Soprano to present a spectacular afternoon of music.

Located in Falls Village, Connecticut, Music Mountain is located on Music Mountain Road, where a short scenic drive will bring music lovers to Gordon Hall with ample & free parking. Beer and wine are available and, as is the Music Mountain custom, audience members are invited to picnic before the concerts on the scenic grounds.

All tickets for the mid-summer special benefit on Sunday, July 17 (3PM) are priced at $60. Ticket prices for the July 16th concert and concerts throughout the  Music Mountain 2011 season are $30 at the door, $27 in advance. (Admission is FREE for those 18 and under.)  Group rates and pre season ticket vouchers are available. Discounts apply through participating organizations. For a complete summer schedule, special ticket prices, and to download a ticket order form visit www.musicmountain.org or call 860-824-7126.
